The Media and Publicly Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bauchi state on Friday called on state legislators to be proactive in their oversight duty to hold Governor Bala Mohammed accountable.
Chairman and the Secretary of the committee, Alhaji Sabo Mohammed and Malam Saadu Umar made the call in a statement jointly signed and made available to our Nigerian News on Friday in Bauchi.
They urged members of the State Assembly to be more proactive in their oversight duty and to hold the Governor to account.
“This appalling scandal before the ICPC on Governor Mohammed would warrant a resignation or impeachment in saner climes! Thus, we hereby urge Mr. Governor to take the path of honour.
“We are equally aware of the allegations of breach of public trust and sundry corruption charges leveled against Mohammed when he was FCT Minister by the EFCC,” it stated.
The committee also urged the members to stop the planned privatization of assets of the State by the governor.
“Lest he transfers our collective assets to himself, his family and friends like the way he unlawfully transferred the land of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to himself and his family,” they said.
The statement called on the legislators to immediately start a thorough investigation of all the contracts signed by the Governor on behalf of Bauchi State.
“He should tell the public to whose interests each and every of those contracts were signed for.
“Were the contracts for the public or for the interests of Gov Bala and his family and friends? They queried.
The committee also called on the legislators to stop Gov Mohammed from borrowing the sum of about 100 billion Naira (200 million US Dollars) from Kuwait.
They however implored all the good people of Bauchi to join hands with the APC to protect assets and demand accountability.
Responding in a statement, Alhaji Mukthar Gidado Mukhtar Gidado,
Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the governor assured the public that Gov. Mohammed “did not misuse his position as FCT Minister to confer any undeserved privileges or advantages on his family.
He said Gov. Mohammed earnestly implored all people of goodwill and conscience, “no matter their political leanings, to rise and condemn the brazen high-handedness”.
