Bauchi Assembly assures to reforms forestry law

The State house of Assembly had assured tol reform and enforce forestry law in order to curb indiscriminate bush burning and illegal felling of trees in the state.
Mr Musa Nakwada the Assembly spokesman gave the assurance at a public hearing on a proposed bauchi tree planting bill 2020 , said that the enforcement of this law will check the activities of timber merchants.
According to him, felling of trees in the state is largely unregulated, mostly due to low awareness on the importance of plants and also feeble enforcement of the laws
“That protect trees, stressing that it has triggered a significant rate of deforestation and soil erosion across the state.
Participants at the event said to strengthen this commitment, the government can also consider the rigid implementation of laws that prevent unauthorized felling of trees to achieve the set target.
They also advised the state government to develop a synergy between the government, communities, individuals, NGOs to combat the loss of the natural resources.
The participants who are also environmental experts in the state, called on the state government to make adequate budgetary provision and ensure judicious protection and management of the existing Forest reserves in the state.
