The Bauchi State Scholarship Board would commence payment of scholarship this first quarter of the year 2012 in the state.
The Chairman of the Board Zakari Ibrahim Muhammad stated in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Bauchi, “we are making frantic effort to see that between January and February we pay students their allowances.
He assured that scholarship for 2021 would be paid soon and attributed non-payment in the past couple of years to the non-constitution of the board of the scholarship board.
He said the board had only a sole administrator then adding that students studying in foreign schools who were not given scholarships for 2020 and 2019 would be paid in March this year.
Zakariya noted that the board as part of measures to avoid fraud in the payment of the money created a portal where all eligible students should apply for the scholarship and be paid by e-payment after the physical screening.
He promised that first class students of Bauchi state extraction from all institutions would be identified by the board and rewarded.
Zakari pointed out the state government does not only give scholarship money to indigent students of the state.
“But also liaises with Nigerian universities, polytechnics and other higher institutions to seek admissions for state citizens.
“The outstanding students are being sponsored even abroad to study various disciplines.
‘We will go to all the universities and have interaction with the universities officials so that we solicit for admissions to our students
“Especially our catchment areas like Maiduguri, Kano, Abu Zaria, ATBU and seek admissions for those who have not got them”. He said.
Also speaking, a permanent Commissioner 1 at the Board, Hussaini Saraki urged Governor Bala Mohammed not to relent in disbursing adequate funds to the board so that it could be paid to all students at the same time rather than in batches.
“Scholarship is very important because it brings succour to poor students. All the present leaders of the nation were beneficiaries of scholarship.
In their time, they enjoyed free education. So they should reciprocate by paying the same to present students”. He pointed out.
On his part, Samaila Suleiman Lasshi Permanent Commissioner 2 reiterated the need for intensive awareness creation on the outstanding students in the state.
He warned students to desists listening to unconfirmed information on scholarships, “they should come to the board and seek clarification of any information before acting on it.
