FG Counsels youth against subversive ideas may disrupt socio-economic activities of the country.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has charged the Nigerian youths to resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos and socio-economic disruptions leading to loss of lives and property.

Speaking at a Town Hall meeting on security issues in Bauchi Monday, the minister said that we all have a responsibility to live in peace and harmony with one another, to seek peaceful and constitutional means of expressing our wishes and desires, and to resist all who might seek to sow confusion and hatred for their own selfish interests.

The Minister added, “We all deserve a country that works, not merely for the privileged few, but for everyone. And you can be assured that this administration will take every step needed to create that country of our dreams”. in the country.

Adamu, who was at the head of a federal government delegation to the meeting that included the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, assured that the government is engaging with local communities to better understand youth grievances and create solutions in a sustainable manner.

He explained that the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government in unfolding people-oriented programmes and projects in spite of the enormous financial and security challenges in the country, are well known to all and sundry

The Minister positioned, “No government in the history of our country has invested more in securing the future of our youth. No government has committed more to expand access to education and economic enterprise as this government has been doing”.

“No government has committed more to the development of critical infrastructure such as rail, roads and power as the government of President Buhari. And no government has done more to create wealth and employment in the area of agriculture as this government”.

He said however that yet no government in recent history has faced more economic hardship and security challenges than our government, and therefore appealed to all Nigerians to recommit themselves to the tasks of building a free, democratic and prosperous country

Adamu, on behalf of the President commended the Bauchi state youths for using their foresight of not participating in the #EndSARS protests which recently swept across states in the federation.

He urged stakeholders, parents, and leaders to ensure that their children and all youth under their stewardship are made to understand and appreciate the benefits of peaceful coexistence, and harmonious relationships in the efforts to move Nigeria to the next level

Earlier ,the Minister of State for Industries, Trade and Investment, Amb.Maryam Yalwaji-Katagum,explained that the Federal Government placed emphasis on acquisition of vocational skills and entrepreneurial development as vehicles of employment generation and poverty alleviation.

She said the plan of the government to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years,had been on course, and would be pursued vigorously.

she said Bank of Industry (BOI) has implemented 27 projects worth N172 million aimed at empowering youth in Bauchi state in the past one year,

The minister said the projects, located in 11 Local Government Areas, were among 67 of such projects proposed for the state.

According to her, the projects are in the areas agro-processing,printing and solid minerals, among others, just as she listed the benefiting Local Government Areas as Katagum, Dass, Tafawa Balewa, Alkaleri, Toro, Kirfi, Ningi, Ganjuwa, Jama’are, Darazo and Misau.

She lauded the efforts of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), saying from 2018 to date, it engaged no fewer than 2, 242 persons in its various empowerment schemes.

The minister also explained that the agency achieved the feat through Conditional Grant Scheme, free Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, business insurance, photography, fashion and design and GSM repairs.

In his remark Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state who is the convener and chairman of the occasion said the meeting is aimed at sensitizing stakeholders on security challenges to discuss on how to discourage the youth and the general public from indulging in unwholesome behaviours

He expressed optimism that the good people of Bauchi state will seize the opportunity of the numerous initiatives of the Federal Government for personal and communal development, and urged all to live in peace with neighbours so that we can collectively advance the course of our state and the country at large.

Senator Bala Mohammed also expressed confidence that the meeting would come up with far reaching resolutions that could pave the way for peace and peaceful co-existence of the diverse ethnics groups for the rapid socio-economic and political development of the country.

On his part The State Director of Department of the state security Service, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Yeldu reassured their unflinching support for the peace and security of the state.

The Director who described the conduct of the town hall meeting as timely, observed that it will go a long way in identifying the security challenges with a view to addressing them amicably.

” On behalf of the Director General, Department of State Services, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, we want to pledge our unflinching support for the peace and security of Bauchi state.”

” We are aware that youths are the leaders of tomorrow and therefore this town hall meeting is timely and it is at this point that we call on youths and their leadership that, if there is anything on security, they should reach us for prompt action.”

Alhaji Umar Yeldu who raised an alarm over increased of cases of kidnapping, banditry, rape and as well as cattle rustling, solicited for continued support of critical stakeholders to the service for minimizing the menace.

” Your Excellency, other high profile personalities, we are aware that Bauchi state is currently recording an increase in criminal activities but we appreciate our Royal Fathers, Imams and Pastors for the roles they played in ensuring security is maintained in the state. We thank you very much in that regard.”

Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Police, Lawal Tanko Jimeta said his command is working in active synergy with youth groups to tackle and reduce their involvement in criminal activities and other social vices.

CP Lawal Jimeta promised that security agencies in Bauchi state would redouble their efforts towards ensuring the maintenance of peace and security across the state.

Speaking also the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu represented by Alhaji Said Jahun Galadiman Bauchi assured the continued support in advocating for peace in the state.

He said the traditional leaders would not relent in preaching for peace among the citizens despite religious and tribal inclination.
