Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has called on the Igbo Community in the state to partner with his administration to bring development to the state and country at large.

Gov. Yahaya who made this call when he hosted a delegation of the Igbo community in the state on Saturday in Gombe said nation building needed collective efforts.

He said the task of building the nation and Gombe state needed the collective responsibility of everyone through unity, adding “once we are united, we stand stronger and we live better and happier.’’

According to him, the unity amongst different ethnic groups in the country had been cordial in time past and must be sustained to ensure development for the state and country.

He stated that the resource in human, land, agriculture and solid minerals needed to build the nation had been given by God, stressing “we only need to continue to accommodate one another in the interest of development.’’

“Nigeria has no reason to be in conflicts- be it of resources, religion and association because history has documented examples of the good relationships that existed amongst Nigerians in time past.

“Our relationship is supposed to be harmonious, of joy and happiness and should be mutually beneficial,’’ he stated.

According to him, his administration is willing to partner with any ethnic group to give good governance to the people of the state and ensure that everyone is carried along in the business of developing the state.

While responding to the request for land to build an Igbo community secretariat in the state, the governor said the “ land to build your secretariat and cultural centre is guaranteed and will be given to you.’’
Yahaya charged them to continue to live in peace while contributing to the development of the state.

Earlier, the President-General of Igbo Community Welfare Association in Gombe State, Mr. Ben Aruonu who led the delegation, commended the governor for his efforts in ensuring peaceful co-existence amongst different ethnic groups in the state.

While also commending Gov. Yahaya for appointing an Igbo man- Mr. Chidebelu Ewuzie as his special adviser on inter-community relations, Aruonu charged governors of the South East region to emulate the gesture.

He stated that doing such would ensure that the people integrate well in the host societies to contribute their quota to the development of the state and the country.

Aruonu further called on all members of the Igbo community to continue to live in peace and pay their taxes regularly so as to help boost the government’s resources needed to develop the state.
