NSITF Urge State Govts, Private Sector to Register for Employees Compensation Scheme.

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has urged state govts, public and public sectors to register into the employees’ compensation scheme (ECS) to enable workers benefits income replacement.
The Regional Manager NSITF Bauchi office Mr. Shafi Abubakar, made the call on special day of NSITF at the ongoing 2nd Bauchi state National trade and exhibition fair on Thursday in Bauchi
He said there is a need for the state government, public and private sector throughout Nigeria to key into the NSITF employee compensation scheme.
“The NSITF provides a defined scheme through a social insurance method for employees in the private and public sector.
“It is targeted at protecting employees or their families from financial difficulties in the event of death or permanent incapacitation as a result of work-related disease or injury.
“The private sector makes contributions for their staff to the funds by virtue of a scheme known as an employee compensation scheme,” Abubakar said.
He explained that the employer rate of contribution is 1% of the total payroll, consisting of the total emoluments.
The Regional Manager also explained that The Employee Compensation Act of 2010 establishes the Employee Compensation Scheme.
“Provides adequate and timely compensation for employees who suffer diseases or injuries in the course of employment,” He said
According to him, registration is very important as it’s provides a form of social security for workers who become incapacitated in the course of employment or their dependents in the event of death.
“Therefore, it is very important that every company register its employees for NSITF
“To affirm its compliance with the Employee Compensation Act 2010 and to also contribute to the employee’s compensation scheme,” he said
Mr Abubakar called on the Bauchi state government to complete it’s formalities after registration by contributing it’s percent for workers to benefit.
The regional office consists of Bauchi Gombe and Taraba states ,with the headquarters in Bauchi
In his remark, Alhaji Habu Jajere, the President Bauchi state Chamber of Commerce, Industry ,Mines and Agriculture urged participants of the fair to patronise NSIF services.
Jajere also calls on the NSITF to intensify efforts in awareness and sensitization of their services to the general public.
“The fund is not known to public, you need to put more efforts in creating awareness of your services,” He said
